Director, choreographer, singer, actor and dancer Michael Popper made his Royal Ballet debut in 1981 dancing with the Company in The Rite of Spring. For The Royal Opera he has been movement director for Artaxerxes and choreographer for The Corridor/The Cure in the Linbury Studio Theatre, and movement director for the 2012 revival of Otello on the main stage.
Popper collaborates extensively with composers, directors, film-makers and writers. He has choreographed and directed for companies including Classical Opera Company, Extemporary Dance Theatre, Dance Umbrella, Hebrides Ensemble, Icelandic Dance Company, Lyceum in Edinburgh, Ankara Modern Dance Team, The Place, National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company, Scottish Dance Theatre, Tanz Forum Cologne, Theater Bonn, Modern Dance Theatre Istanbul, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Opera Vlaanderen, Welsh National Opera and at the Aix-en-Provence Festival. His independent works have been presented in theatres, art galleries and public spaces around Europe.
Popper has performed as a dancer, singer and actor with such companies as Rambert, Compagnie Renaud-Barrault, Hebrides Ensemble, The Lindsay Kemp Company, Opera Circus, Opera Holland Park, The Purcell Quartet, Rosemary Butcher Company, Second Stride, Theatre Cryptic, Ulysses Theatre and at the London International Mime Festival.
