INVITED GRADUATE | PETER FERGUSON

Based in Uist in the Outer Hebrides, Peter Ferguson’s practice is an exploration of how our senses create a structure for our experience of the ambient environment, and how this structure can be reflected into affective and effective artwork. He is interested in how the background noise of our ambient (mostly urbanised) commons can be challenged through a process of localised re-territorialisation: how artworks (mostly within the rural landscape tradition) can assist in reconfiguring of space for psychological defence and self-care.

Recent work has included include a series of paintings on illness, and new works looking at the experience and representation of the Hebridean weather: reading the air. Peter works primarily through painting (in ink or oil), photography and, more recently, sound recordings.
